Schematic Design Plans (Within the footprint and Outside the Footprint)

As we complete this very early stage of design, the following drawing is the result of several months of work between the Building Commitee, the architects of Johnson and Roberts Assoc, the OPM Katie Crockett, and several discussions with the Board of Trustees. Please note; this design has NOT been accepted by the Board, the land necessary for this design does not at this time exist within the current library holdings, and cost estimates, while very nearly complete, do not reflect a finished design product and must be viewed as 'fairly' accurate.
In addition to this design, an intitial and preliminary design was requisitioned by the Building committee which considered a possible design reconfiguration within the existing footprint. This design placed the children's area in the North end, the darkest part of the building, near the fireplace and fire exit. The restrooms were located at the Southmost end of the building. Because of funding limitations, discussions regarding a loss of 1/3 of the existing collection due to accessibility constraints as informed by the architects, a Board vote (not unanimous but majority driven) directed the architects to look explore options outside of the existing footprint.
